Project 366: Day 208
- The ones that get away
I broke a cardinal rule of photography this morning when I grabbed my camera to get this shot of Hosta flowers in a shaft of sweet morning light with raindrops blowing down around them from the oak leafs above. I only had 8 shots left on the memory card in the camera, plenty to get the shot I had in mind, but not enough to account for the “what if” factor. Twenty or so seconds after I shot this image and filled the card a hummingbird visited the uppermost flower, pausing for a few brief moments perfectly illuminated by the shaft of morning light, and by the time I could hit review and delete to free up a frame it was gone.
I’ve seen it in the backyard around the same time the last few mornings so hopefully I’ll get another chance, although it’s unlikely the conditions will be quite as perfect as the shot I missed today.
